Not much on it.  Is Venom worthy of a stand alone movie?

 

SCI FI Wire got a chance to talk to Zombieland co-writer Paul Wernick about the script for "Spider-Man" spin-off Venom that he wrote with Rhett Reese.

 

"We've written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they're pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward," Wernick said. He was tight-lipped about whether there was a relationship between Spider-Man 4 and the Venom project.

 

"We can't really talk about that, unfortunately," he added. "Basically, the studio and Marvel and the Arads are taking our drafts and going beyond and figuring out what's the next step."

 

 

 

Meh.

 

Venom is only a good character when he is interacting with more major players. On his own, he is just full of suck.

Only way to make this even remotely interesting would be to take the idea from Dark Reign, trying to keep Venom on the good side, something he obviously does not handle as well as some might have hoped for. But, that will of course not happen..

Well he is the favourite anti-hero in Spiderman series so if they do it right they should have the fanboy vote.

Gary Ross ("Seabiscuit," "Pleasantville") will pen the next draft of the script and potentially direct the "Spider-Man" spin-off feature "Venom" for Sony Pictures says Heat Vision Blog.

 

Venom is a gooey alien parasite that bonds with Peter Parker and later his newsroom rival and becomes a monstrous beast.

 

Topher Grace portrayed the character in 2007's "Spider-Man 3", no word if Grace will return or even if the story will be a continuation of that or a reboot with no link to the "Spider-Man" universe.

 

Ross, who is also polishing the "Spider-Man 4" script, takes over from previous "Venom" drafts by the likes of "Mean Creek" writer Jacob Estes and "Zombieland" scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
