I was just wondering what the reason was for people's names here on DM. Did you think long and hard about it, or more kind of go

"Oh hell, I need a name, quick!"

 

Do you regret your choice at all?

I picked Niamh because it is said like the last part of Nynaeve's name... "Neev" and I thought it was unusual and quite pretty :)I still like the name even though most people call me Nia now ;)

I had to recreate my account after a little run in with Roka and I knew I was to join the White Tower and the Wolfkin... and I had just gotten done reading both the Belgariad and Mallorean series and Poledra seemed pretty kewl to have and sorta ironic for my Orgs I was joining.

 

also, it's been brought to my attention that Poledra appeared as a wolf with a BLUE nimbus and I just happen to be an Aes Sedai of the BLUE Ajah. Her Prophecy name was also The Woman That Watches, and my new Org Leadress name is She Who Watches, so no, I don't regret it - quite the opposite! :D

I picked Odette because it's what I named my flute. I don't play the flute that well, and I would have named myself after my violin, but somehow "Reginald" didn't really suit me.

Covenant is a character that I created in my own book series....I always choose that name.

I thought it out in about a minute: it is based on my real name, just made more interesting. By now, I use it in a lot of places.

i picked my name because it was the least likely to be taken by anybody and it had a nice ring to it...

 

now i use it all the time...

Its the name of my band and I was just trying to think of a name off the top of my head and this is the first thing that came to mind.....

 

I usually call myself BoxCarRacer on forums......... But it didnt seem 'right' on a WoT forum.

Cleopatra was a strong powerful woman. Sexy and enticing and I thought... I am going to be a green so... Power + Sex = Greenie. Well, that's my theory anyway. :oops:

i chose demandred because all the way through reading the books i just seemed to like the sound of it and such not to meantion HES STILL ALIVE AND KICKIN, which comes to the valerius bit, its a last name id love to have just sound nice, so its an alias i use wherever i am on the net.

Mines rough Elvish, idk just made it up when i joined a couple MMO's and its stuck.

Mine is because I wasn't in the creative spirit and absolutely adore Eragon and Eldest. Arya is the name of the elf, and Ellesméra is the name of the land where the elves live. *shrug*

I jsut made mine up :D it really has nothing to do with anything.. but I'm used to it now, and I use it most other places so, I'm happy with it I guess :D

This is my name everywhere I guess. I picked it originally for MSN chat as I lived in Perth at the time near the River Tay and first thing in the morning its misty on the water. Simple as that. :D

I always use this name for everything.

He was my favorite darkfriend, and I loved how Lanfear killed him.

It was my nickname in undergrad, and I just kept it. Its not as boring as my real name. No other reason than that.

I am not so clever as to create one myself so I just ripped one off from the book. I really enjoy reading about the aiel and the aiel ways. So hence gai'shain. I also named my car gai'shain sense it is in a way a servant, but not. hehe.

well, i'm thinkin most can guess the origins of mine. i use it everywhere online.

 

actually, i am the "dude" of my circle of friends too. that's mostly what they call me. hell, my boss calls me "dude."

Mine comes, as you might guess, from Mat.

 

When I first joined DM, I was right in the middle of a re-read of the books and the dice had just started tumbling in Mat's head again. I think it was right before the house fell on him in Tanchico and he disappeared for a couple of books.

Mine came from my prior nerd lifestyle as an avid D&D player. Came from my lvl 32ish Drow Ranger.. I was not very original and carried the name here.

I got mine from a random fantasy name generator when I was doing some FFRP on an IRC server about 10 years ago. I was playing a half elf. I messed around with what was originally spit out and got Jhaenara and have used it ever since for most things since it's very unlikely to be taken by anyone else... lol. I also use Rheannan a lot... mainly gaming (since Rhiannon is always taken).
