I was sort of wondering about this for a while now, sort of thinking it over in my head. I would like to hear what you guys think, though. Non CotL peeps are welcome to post too, of course.

We all know that the CotL differs to levels and factions of beliefs. Some even possess a different set of values and morals. And I'm not just talking about the differentiation into the Hand, the Whisper and the Army. Even within every group there are folds....there are the ones who are more fanatically inclined and the ones that seem to have a pretty solid and sensible way of thinking.

Some CotL understand what needs to be done and accept it. Some don't understand but accept it anyway, reluctantly... and some just reject it all together and stick to the one way they know and believe in (Otherwise known as the black or white path. No inbetween).

I was wondering how you'd define your own CotL character. Where exactly does he/she fall? (or will, in the future, if you haven't quite made up your mind yet). What made you choose that particular set of beliefs and values?

Oh, and if you're a non CotL, you can answer hypothetically. :)

Personally, my own character, Zoe is a bit undecided yet. However, if I'd have to make a decision right now, I'm pretty sure I'd see her in the Army. She will of course have the basic set of values that every CotL possess, which is that darkfriends need to be killed. And while I can totally see her being wary of an Aes Sedai and the likes, she wouldn't try to hurt one. And not because it would prolly be suicidal  LOL ... but more because of the simple realization that Aes Sedai are an integrate part of the solution.

As far as the CotL NSWs go, Ezekiel is the typical fanatical Hand member. He pretty much believes in killing anyone that isn't in the CotL  LOL   Well, maybe not THAT fanatic... but it comes close to it. He believes in using any method necessary. The end justifies the means, after all.

Evelyn is an Army gal. She's an hardass, but that's just her character trait. She understands the use of Aes Sedai, but she wouldn't hesitate to harm one if need be.

I think Edalia will follow the same line as Zoe. She only joined the CotL as she had no other choice. She understands the need for Darkfriends to be hunted down and killed but she is no way fanatical about it and can't understand some of the other CotL's views on the "Witches of Tar Valon" though she'll never say as much....at least not out loud. :P

Ooh! Ooh! Psychoanalysis! WHAT FUN! :D

Well, I gave some serious thought to Sylos' beliefs before I decided to apply him to the CoL. He's been headed for the Whisper since his early inception in my brain, simply because I think spies and assassins are awesome.

I can't really seeing him killing Aes Sedai out of hand, though he certainly would if they presented an immediate danger to himself or other Children. Otherwise, it would just be too good a chance to learn about the Aes Sedai and their plans for him to pass up. He can't really accept the idea of killing all Aes Sedai just for being Aes Sedai, but he's equally uncomfortable with the idea of them running everything.

On a more general moral level, he's a lot shadier than most. He's definitely a 'ends justify the means' sort of person, and would have no problem lying, cheating or stealing to accomplish his goals, though his goals at least are usually more or less for the greater good.

yeah... it is a bit on the double standard side. Because stealing, for instance (as I've recently learned) is something that in Randland is REALLY frowned upon. The punishments themselves involve corporeal punishments (branding and the likes). For a CotL to practice in that is... lol... well, against the rules. Which sort of makes you wonder.... Would a CotL punish another if he found him stealing? Would that end with a discharge as well?  I wouldn't be completely sure, to be honest. I lean towards yes because The CotL do consider themselves to be implacable  lol  And while a big chunk of them would do anything to reach their goal... there's a big difference between making a no no and getting away with it... and making a no no and getting caught ;)

I don't know; if they were caught stealing from another COTL I can see them being turned in, but with the Children's massive 'us against them' mentality I don't know that I'd expect them to turn in a child who stole from someone outside the Children. Although I can see it splintering along faction lines- I can see someone in the Army or the Whisper turning in questioners in a heartbeat, and vice versa.  :)
