Obviously we RPers are all inspired to one extent or another by the WoT books, but what other books have had elements creep into your RP?  I'm personally a fan of the GRRM Ice & Fire books, and also Ursula Le'Guin makes it into my writing a lot sometimes too.

Terry Pratchett is starting to become a real influence for me, Douglas Adams was one too, generally any author that I find amusing manages well.

If you like Douglas Adams, you should check out Spider Robinson and his "Callahan's Crosstime Saloon" series of novellas.  They are hilarious but poignant.

Funnily enough, I'd have to agree with your two choices Claire. :) GRRM is my favourite fantasy writer and I've been a huge fan of Ursula Le Guin since I first read the Earthsea books. Patricia Keneally Morrison is another, her Keltiad series has been a big influence on me... and Katherine Kerr's Deverry books too.

Loved the Earthsea books.  I'd really like to maybe start a freelander character that is an orphaned urchin, and base him on "Bean" from Orson Scott Card's books in the Ender's Game series.

Books that inspire?

I think the only one that has really influenced me is Michael Moorcocks Elric series, but that is more in character identity then in storylines. Most of the writers i read are not the sort that can easily be transferred to the WOT world.

Music is more my inspiration, both sound wise, and subject matters.

I'm with Owen on the Music is an inspiration. It moves the soul to produce words.

Other works, I'm a big fan of Jonathan Stroud, Garth Nix, and a lot of Australian authors. (Something about their humor!) I also find Sanderson's use of 'Smoke & Mirrors' something to look up to, and Sharon Shinn's use of character flaws, world illusions to be an absolute joy to try and work out.

Have to agree with the ASoIF books. I also tend to have Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's series in my mind too when I rp. And the other, which is rather embarrassing, is historical romance novels by Amanda Quick. the way her characters interact with one another reminds me a lot of how Aes Sedai interact with their warders, though with the genders reversed lol. Yes, I have a shameless addiction to bodice rippers ;).

I find that I use the Sevenwaters Trilogy by Juliet Marillier. I also tend to take inspiration from classic Engligh lit. Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, etc. I also get inspiration from music, the darker the better. :D

And though this will push me over the geeky edge, sometimes I base them off of D&D characters that I loved. >.>
