I was just reading a New Spring, and came across a sentence that made me chuckle: "Ryne fingered one of his braids, then gave it a hard tug that made its bells jingle." and then: "Ryne grimaced and have his braid another hard pull."

 

What if Ryne Venemar is actually Nynaeve's father? ;D that way she's actually Malkieri and explains Lans attraction ;D and it also means that Lan killed her father.

I don't think so. Such a stranger would be noted in the Two Rivers. Nyneave's parents would be the cause of much of Cenn's complaining. But, since all he complains about is her age I think she is from far away.

I think it's a funny idea that could either be coincidental or something RJ put out there for fun.  I highly doubt it to be true though.

Wasn't he a darkfriend? It would fit his character though, from what I remember of the book he was quite the ladies man so getting some two rivers chick knocked up wouldn't be beyond him.

Though, this is NYNAEVE's mother we're talking about....I don't think a Two River's woman is going to stand for being knocked up and then tossed.

I agree...and even if it were rape, a single mother in the type of place Edmond's Field is..I doubt Nynaeve would be able to become wisdom if she were a badstard child.

I think the braid pulling is only meant to be a simple mannerism as opposed to a piece in the endless puzzle. I dont think Ryne pulling his braid makes him Nynaeves dad any more than him having bells in his hair makes him Narishmas dad.

I think it more likely Jordan couldn't have a braid appear on a page untugged. That just wouldn't be wottish. Simply uncivilized.
