This thread is to be about who among wetlander-raised characters understand aiel culture.

After voting, please post reasons.

Rand- because he has spent some time learning about them and saw through his Aiel ancestors' eyes.

Egwene- due to her time with the Wise Ones. Even understands "accepting pain."

Lan- as evidenced by his scenes in TSR. He has fought against them numerous times.

Faile- she learned from Bain and Chiad. They even taught her some of the Maiden Talk which technically they shouldn't have.

Borderlanders- due to their frequent contact with them, but this one is debatable.

Cairhienin- being conquered by them twice has had large impacts on them as evidenced by Cha Faile and numerous other similar groups.

Agree about Rand, Egwene, Lan, Faile, and Borderlanders.

These also I think have some degree of understanding of them:

-Moiraine because of her knowledge of some of their words

-Bashere & Perrin because of the amount of fighting both done with them

-Berelain because she adapted to some degree to their ways

what is it with yoy and and making polls for everything?

anyway, ignoring the vote i do have an observation and a question on the subject.

when Perrin first got back to Two Rivers and he + the Aiel first made contact with Marin and Bran Al'vere, Marin instantly knows the whole "come in my roof"-ceremony, or whatever it's called.

how the hell did she know that?

She didn't. Perrin notes that she acted as if she had been around Aiel her entire life. Also, she met Gaul a little before she met Loial, Faile, Bain, and Chiad, so meeting Gaul first prepared her a little for the other two Aiel.

Not everything; there are a few topics I have not made polls for.

Why do I make polls?  Partly because I can, partly to find out what people would choose, partly because it became a habit.  Main reason, I am not sure.

Lan. Mainly because I don't think he tries to understand. He's just the sort of bloke that accepts people the way they are and let's em get on with it.
