The banner up top is asking me if i'm gay. I don't think so, but the algorithms they use for these custom ads is pretty advanced. So, who knows.

 

Is DM doing alright financially? I didn't think they needed to resort to these types of ads.

The ads are how DM pays for its hosting, instead of charging you the member to use the site. They've just about always been there.

The ads are from Google. It picks up on keywords on the page you are vieweing and brings you ads about what it finds.

 

Like if in the Discussion Boards, you debate Gay Marriage. It will post ads about gay people. If you discuss Robert Jordan, then it advertises his books. If you discuss aspects of Islam, then you will see ads for Muslims.
