Just a random thought.  Characters have some sort of influential being or concept when they're written.  I'm just curious who it was for all of you.

Jehryn was inspired by my previous Bander, Mehrin.  Mehrin was all that was man, and all that was warrior.  He rose through the ranks and became Commander of the Band.  As a commander, though, characters are stuck, essentially.  In order to correct this, I had Mehrin leave the Band to the Freelanders.  In his place, I created another character, but one that would not end up the same way as Mehrin did.  Thus, a character who was unable to participate in combat in the usual sense was born.  I took some aspects of my personality, namely an ability to sing and a desire to learn how to blacksmith, then took all of that away from the character.  Drawing on Erik from 'The Phantom of the Opera', I scarred his face, destroyed his voice, and seared his lungs with a forge fire.  To this, I added a touch of Amazonian tribal hunting techniques by giving Jehryn a knowledge of herbs and medicines, arming him with a blowgun and assorted darts.

The result is a rasping, wheezy young man who can kill a man, but only if he's willing to spend several minutes choking from the lack of air.  Not exactly command material.  Mission accomplished. :P

Elynde was inspired by various sources. A bit of a mish mash really.

Mostly she grew out of my Band Org persona where "Tay" was Captain-General of the Infantry having worked up through the ranks and eventually Under-Commander. I already had her bio written out for the Band's Quest RP. That provided the basis for Elynde as a Warder on another RP site that I co-admin and then eventually she was re-written for DM.

Certain parts of her character are rooted in myself, though those are minimal. Like the fact that she's independant minded, a bit of a loner, prefers to follow her own path, sometimes speaks bluntly and hang the consequences lol and her sense of responsibility/duty.

Other parts come from Birgitte in WoT and my favourite book character, Aeron in The Keltiad series. She's a warrior at heart. Street smart, not a woman to cross and very practical. She's a looker but considers it unimportant and she enjoys/appreciates men/male company but has no particular interest in them until one specific one comes along. Ely will never be an Officer per se, she's too inclined to go her own way but she might hold leadership roles temporarily based on need. She chafes against it though.

My character was made as a mary sue type a bit for a RP Mafia game run by Winter Mist, back when she was active at Dragonmount. It didn't work out, and I just edited the Bio a bit for the actual Roleplay, and fleshed it out some. Now I have a character who is a little too good, and I'm attempting to work in some flaws. Being out of shape is a good start, but that won't last long in the band, so I'm figuring out where to go with him from there.
