well that was a random comment! I didn't read the books until after I watched the last movie, I suspected, and then found to be true, that the early movies were easier to follow because the books they were based on were shorter (but this sentence shall remain long). The characters in the movies are true to the books, but because more happens in each book the movies have had to cut bits out. As a result, if you haven't read the books you sometimes miss important things that don't get as much play in the movies.

 

Since coming back from Scotland I have been so happy to notice more of the slang, ie. "Taking the mick"
