I watched two beautiful NFL games today.  My own Bucs beat the Bears in Chicao with a last-minute touchdown to tie it up and send it into overtime, and then after 2 punts back and forth, a field goal in overtime.  It was lovely.  And the Colts and the Jags was an awesome game, it really was.

More football tomorrow!  I'd say sorry about Auburn, Daruya, but in that game I was hoping for LSU.  I have a friend that goes there, even though he has nothing to do with football, I don't know anyone at Auburn.

'twas the weekend...

the Dawgs rolled on ASU and thus life was good, made better by Tenessee Losing. The only downside to Tennessee losing, was that meant Florida won... and Auburn losing is always a good ting in my house, as my wife is a Bama grad...

Boo, Roll Tide.  Only team I like less than Auburn is 'Bama.  Mostly just because Bama seems to have the single most obnoxious and in-your-face boastful and rude fans of any college.  And this is keeping in mind the fact that I have never even been in Alabama aside from brief and hurried crossings on I-10, so it's not people who live near there given them this rep.

My middle school history teacher, who I absolutely loved, was a 'Bama boy.  He was one of the most thoughtful and intelligent teachers I ever had - until someone mentioned football.  At which point he transformed into this rabid, slavering monster.

I wonder if I would like College football better if I'd never lived in the South.

Yes, Bama fans can be that way... but god bless 'em they just can't help themselves. They'll be humbled again shortly... Dawgs vs. Tide this weekend.

Here's what Wiki has to say:

Officially, following the 1930 game versus Ole Miss, Atlanta Journal sports writer Everett Strupper wrote:

"At the end of the quarter, the earth started to tremble, there was a distant rumble that continued to grow. Some excited fan in the stands bellowed, 'Hold your horses, the elephants are coming,' and out stamped this Alabama varsity. It was the first time that I had seen it and the size of the entire eleven nearly knocked me cold, men that I had seen play last year looking like they had nearly doubled in size."

Sports writers continued to refer to Alabama as the "Red Elephants" afterwards.
