Question about book 4.

Ive read the series a couple of times and just noticed this in this read through.  In The Shadow Rising, Chapter 22, Out of the Stone, about 2 pages before the end of the chapter Rand says

"It had to work for me sooner or later."

This is when he chose the symbol for the portal stone to Rhuidian (sp?).  Anyways, what is he referring to?  Ive been thinking about it and am not sure.  What am i missing?

Thanks!@

Pretty sure that he's being rather sardonic about being Ta'veren.  I've never thought anything sinister was hidden behind that comment.

It seems to me that Rand was referring to Mat's luck.  The rest of the paragraph seems to indicate that.

He was refering in general to the chance bending effects of ta'verenism in general.
