I picked up Cube Route from the library a couple of years ago and ended up wanting to throw it at the wall.

I mean, good for Piers Anthony that he's got an audience, but I ain't ever gonna be a part of it.

That's not quite what I meant, but I'm sure you understood that. The only exception to the rule though are the Incarnations of Immortality books that he did.

Never read them. I don't read as much as I ought to. I'm still waiting for them to get book 3 of Jennifer Roberson's Karavans series published.

I read that because I heard Pratchett was great and always read a series in order. Didn't care much for that one, though I've heard his later books are much better and don't need to be read in order.

I made that mistake when I was a kid; I picked up the fourth book in the Belgariad at the library, not realizing that it was in fact the fourth book. I was extremely lost.

There are a few arcs within Discworld that adhere to more of a series policy, but those are more aberrations.

It is true that The Color of Magic wasn't that great. There were a couple other early ones (Equal Rites comes to mind) that weren't up to par, but they're mostly all good. I got hooked by a book somewhere in the middle.

It's hard not to repeat oneself, just ask Scott Kurtz. Anyway, the lead-in was just too perfect.

I thought you never repeated yourself. (to my amazement >.>) Didn't even notice it 'till you pointed it out. *rides a frog*

Oh hell, I repeat material plenty. I usually go long enough that I don't realize I'm repeating myself, but there's only so much murder to do.
