Will we see Fain in ToM?

Featured Replies

Simple enough question, Do you think we will see Padan Fain in ToM? If so where do you think he will be? and what will he be planning?

Personally I'm going to say yes. I think the last time we saw him was in book nine (I'm not to good with the titles but I remember the chronology reasonably well) in Far Madding. So he has been missing for far too long!

I think that we will find him in perhaps the Borderlander army at Far Madding as, I would say, he had the advantage in the fight between himself and Rand when they last met at Far Madding. Hence it would be a logical place for him to try to lure Rand again. If he has the ear of one of the borderland kings or queens (I am particularly thinking of Tenobia here, without Bashere she is naive and vulnerable) then he could quite conceivably guide this group, which he knows Rand will be interested in, wherever he wants. However I am unsure as to whether Agelmar was with the borderland army or not as he is the only one who could identify Fain from this group. (Hurin is a commoner who could be easily removed if he posed a threat to Fain).

I would say that his plan will still be to kill Rand, and to do this he needs Rand at his most vulnerable, hence why I thought Far Madding.

I forgot how up-to-date Mat is on these things.  Does he know who/what Fain is?

He knows that he's "worse than a Darkfriend", he stole the Horn of Valere and his SL dagger from Fal Dara, and is dangerous enough to order trollocs and myrdraal around.  He may have heard of Fain's exploits in the Two Rivers, but hasn't seen him since TGH.  Fain's direct attacks on Rand happened after Mat left on his remarkable journey to Salidar, so Mat may not know just how dangerous he is, but if he sees the dagger he'll know to avoid it like the plague.
