Roserock Films, Gran Via Productions and Mysteria Film Group are planning a film adaptation of the acclaimed and popular game series "Myst" reports Variety.

 

First released in 1993 and one of the first computer games (alongside "The 7th Guest") released on the then brand-new CD-ROM format, the first-person perspective game had the player exploring a mysterious island where books are the key to different worlds (called 'Ages').

 

Two imprisoned brothers bickering over who murdered their father were key to the plot, but the main selling point was the advanced graphics for the time along with the atmospheric environs, mouse-reliant interface and mind-bending puzzles.

 

The game, which saw four sequels released up until 2005, was the highest-selling PC game of all time for many years until "The Sims" took the record from it in 2002. The film plans to expand the mythology of the first game and adapt elements of the series tie-in novels, "The Book of Atrus", "The Book of Ti'ana" and "The Book of D'ni".
