Do we ever find out why Verin left him behind when she went after Rand? I think it has something to do with the fact he was DF (if unwilling at that point) and there were orders that Verin was afraid he might follow.

That or she had him off following up on leads for her "project" since she was going to be otherwise occupied.

 

ETA: OK, wait: Tomas is mentioned as being really worried about her after she bails without warning.

Perhaps when she left him behind, she knew that the actions she was taking might be construed as against the Great Lord of the Dark, and that Tomas might be placed in a situation that could harm their life's work. [i say their in reference to their redemption].
