Give up half the light

Featured Replies

OK, be nice if I am wrong with this, but my memory is shockingly bad. IIRC Mat is told when he goes through to the Aelfinn he has to give half the light to save the world. Now he's sort of cosy with Tuon putting it mildly. The Seanchan have the male a'dam thanks to Bayle blowing the chance of dumping it, the numpty. Now one of the Seanchan's prophecies is that the Dragon Reborn has to kneel to crystal throne. Could or would Mat lure Rand so that he has the a'dam placed on thereby kicking in another prophecy?

Most assume this refers to Mat giving up half of the light as in his eye. sacrificing it to save moirane

I agree that losing an eye is the most likely interpretation but why do you think he will lose it specifically while saving Moiraine rather than in some other way - say, involving prototype cannons (Aludra's 'Dragons')?

Probably because losing it while saving Moiraine would be the most heroic way to lose it, so everyone latches onto that reason. Losing it while testing or using the prototype dragons? Kinda anti-climatic for our dashing rogue :mat:

Egwene has a dream where Mat places his own eye on a balance scale. That, connected to the "give up half the light of the world" line, are both connected to why people believe Mat will lose/give up an eye.

The reference to "half the light of the world" might be from the A&E perspective. They get to see the world through his eyes so if he looses onethey loose half thier window...
