Cinema Asia Releasing, Eleven Arts and FUNimation Entertainment will be bringing anticipated anime feature "Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance" to U.S. theatres in January.

 

Over 26 episodes, Hideaki Anno's mid-1990's acclaimed anime series "Neon Genesis Evangelion" managed to crossover internationally and in many circles is considered as influential a work in the genre as the likes of "Akira".

 

The story revolved around the efforts by the paramilitary organization Nerv to fight hostile beings called Angels. Their primary weapons are giant robots called Evangelions which are piloted by select teenagers, one of whom is the emotionally unstable Shinji Ikari.

 

Almost ridiculously dense with religious symbolism, philosophical pondering and psychological conflicts, the show only grew more confusing to the point that the final few episodes, and an animated movie aiming at a more "explainable" ending are generally considered bizarre and incomprehensible at best.

 

Thus in 2007 began "Rebuild of Evangelion", a four film series that would essentially re-tell the story in a way that's more accessible to non-fans, plus take advantage of 3D CG technology. While the first film essentially was a point-for-point adaptation of the first six episodes of the series, this one makes quite a few changes while adapting elements from the next six episodes.

 

"Evangelion 2.0" is expected to score around 70 up to 100 screens for its release according to ANN. A DVD & Blu-ray release in the U.S. is already scheduled for March 29th.

This excites me.

 

I loved Evangelion, never seen the 'other' ending though. The other ending being the one that wasn't on the dvd box set of the series. I saw the vanilla version, where...*spoiler* Osaka doesn't get killed by swarming mini-angels or something? Wikipedia wasn't clear.

The blu-ray for 2.22 has been available since -I think- March in hong kong. Even has sufficient English subs. I did a fan sub a while back and also put together a music video.

Heh. You need to man/woman up and see "End of Evangelion". Rewatch the series episodes 1-24. Your experience is quite incomplete without it.

 

On the point of the thread, I am suprised it's taking them over a year to localize each movie. Since 3.0 and 4.0 don't seem to be coming soon, I will patienly wait and then watch all 4 movies at one time. I'll bring happy pills. I'll probably need them afterwards.
