The Forces of Randland

Featured Replies

I've been trying to put together a compilation of different troop counts from the multiple armies in Randland, but I've had one problem. I've yet to find anything real solid about the number of shadowspawn that each Forsaken command. I understand why they wouldn't want this revealed with a specific number, but I've not even seen close estimates. I may have just read over a small detail or missed something entirely, but I would appreciate any member's insight that they would provide.

Estimating the Trolloc hordes is problematic and I'm not entirely certain it can be done. I'm pretty sure we have a thread in the ToM forums (somewhere) that deals with the rest of the forces and I know I read estimates on the Wotmania site back in the day too.

Lan's forces at Tarwin's Gap are outnumbered by about 12 to 1. I'd say that's a fair estimate of the overall numbers of shadowspawn compared to human forces. The odds might reduce a good bit if the forces of Light round up every man, woman and child capable of wielding a weapon. Realistically (to me anyway) the Shadowspawn would have to outnumber the soldiers of the Light by at least 10 to 1 since the forces of Light seem to have far, far more channellers amongst them than the forces of the Shadow. Well for the moment anyway, who knows what's coming when the hammer does fall? And that's not even factoring in Aludra's Dragons. So to my thinking, for there to be a suitably dramatic, edge of the seat last stand for the forces of the Light before the inevitable victory (or defeat... ), they are going to have to be pretty heavily outnumbered to look like being over-run despite channellers, Dragons and (presumably) much better generals on their side.

I do realise I have probably helped you not at all since you were looking for numbers and hard facts and from me all you got was rambling speculation
