TFOH: Rand accuses Asmodean of making the gateway invisible. But he does see the gray patch covering the gateway!

Ok this is a mystery for me:

Aviendha opens a gateway to Seanchan.

Rand follows her after blocking the gateway.

Asmodean comes and does something to the gateway.

Now the gateway is gray and does not show the other side.

Rand returns to Cairhien with Aviendha.

Rand is angry to Asmodean for making the gateway invisible.

But the gateway is not invisible. It does not show the other side and it is a gray window but it is not totally invisible. Rand sees his blocking flows plus the gray patch. Why does he accuse Asmodean of making the gateway invisible? What this has to do with invisibility? Maybe Rand could not see the gray gateway against the backdrop of the gray sky in Seanchan. Is this why he says Asmodean "You made the gateway invisible"?

Asmo made it invisible from HIS side, so the maidens or anyone else wandering in couldn't see it.

You know I read that chapter maybe 10 times yesterday evening and it never occurred to me! I guess I was tired :P

The he thing that made me really enjoy Peter Jackson’s LOTR was that despite the departures from the books the story was told in the same tone as the novels and so it still felt like LOTR Same went for Game of Thrones, the books had a darker tone and thus so did the show so it felt like the same world and the same story. WOT by contrast just does not have the same tone as the books. It feels like they are trying to tell the story of WOT in the tone of GOT and it just feels off
