it has been thought that there was life on Mars in the past (see pages 8-10 for more details) and today we still look for evidence that life might have once been on Mars, or that there will be someday

because we have no definite answers, we must draw conclusions from what we do know using the scientific method (and I will pretend to skim the paragraph explaining what the scientific method is)

some theories have survived the scientific method long enough that they are now considered to be laws of nature. They have proven true, and can correctly predict what will happen in some situations. Newton's laws of motion are good examples of this

there is skepticism built into the method, therefore we as a whole do not believe something until it has been thoroughly tested and still stands. Even then it can be disproven, but it helps us to explain the universe and gives us grounds with which to poke at other ideas

a "conservative" approach at looking for life is to limit the search to being just in the Milky Way galaxy, and if we do find some other civilization, we will focus on ones that have technology such as the radio. Some life may be far less or far more intelligent, and in this approach we want to find life like ourselves

Newton's Laws of Motion (in a nutshell)

1st Law

A body remains at rest or constant velocity until an external force acts on it

2nd Law

Force is proportional to the rate of change of momentum

3rd Law

If body A exerts a force on body B, B will do the same to A. Same type and size, opposit direction.

(when the mass of a body is constant 2nd law becomes F=ma)

It was very quiet in maths today, when my teacher suddenly yelled SQUIRREL!

Most hilarious

seriously?
