The Man With The Golden Gun.

Bad guy: Christopher Lee. He likes Rhapsody of Fire, one of my favorites. Would you expect that? A metalhead of 88?

yeah, I should've invested in an air card and some extra laptop batteries or a UPS before this thing hit, not going out now, lol

i have some candles, a lighter, and some books. and a radio that has batteries. i live about 1/3 of a mile form the substation, so i'm hoping we don't black out long. i'm dead if i fall asleep without the machine, which all whining to the contrary, i would rather not be.

but i think you're much closer to the bad part of the storm.

Yeah, it's going to get pretty bad they keep saying. My parent's actually live two blocks from one of the evacuation zones. I told them yesterday they should evac anyway even though technically they're not in the zone. They switched into stubborn grumpy old people mode and are sticking it out...

*mumbles something about senile old people*

katrina scared people off evac shelters, but it also should have scared them out of sticking it out. you're really in my prayers, and the grumpy old folks, too. my family's sticking where they are, but they're not in the evac zone yet, though they probably should be. i told them to come up here for the weekend, but they have to stay for their cats. yup, we're all nuts.

so you have all the stuff you need though, like water in all the tubs and pots and buckts, and windows shaded and draped and all? you're not just... screwed?

Yeah, I'm prepared. I'm not in a danger zone for flooding. High winds will really be the only thing I need to worry about, so I'm all prepared for that, and if the power goes out.

All stocked up on toilet paper too

Yup, toilet paper.

I did get to learn a new trick though. A guy on the weather site said to get a bunch of ziploc bags and fill them 3/4 of the way with water. Then stick as many as you can fit in your freezer. So if the power goes out, all the ice you just made will keep your food from spoiling!

that's a good idea, and then you're left with water, which is even better.

i'm banking on the neighbors's pools for larger water needs. and the heavy downpour, of course.
