Ostracism - if the assembly decided to carry out an ostracism vote in any year, a special date was set on which citizens of Athens wrote on pieces of pottery the name of the man they most disliked. If one man received enough "votes" he was exiled for 10 years without loss of property.

 

We can imagine the fate of certain New Zealand politicians in recent years if ostracism had been possible.
