    I think I watched it when I was like 8 or 9, I had no idea what was happening

     

    it's not really about what's happening, and I had to see it a few dozen times and read th book before igot any idea... and nowadays they have different visual expectations and fewer hallucinogens so it's not the same experience.

    the obelisk, it's like an alien seed or something, it creates star systems where life can evolve, prompts that life to become intelligent, seek the stars, seek their makers... in 2001 it was making Jupiter into a sun and it's moons planets I think...
