Feel better!

And Cindy, no, I'd never heard of that song before Paet posted it, either. XD

yes, that one.

where exactly does it hurt, lee? lower left what makes it worse? standing up or apparently laying down what makes it better? sitting

any associated symptoms? nope

numbness anywhere? tingling? clumsiness? - no, except walking somewhat hurts

does the pain radiate anywhere? from the lower left

aching or stabbing? mix ache plus dull stab when moving?

scale of 1 - 10? 7

any history of injury? not there

have you ever had a similar episode of back pain before? no

did you shovel any snow? no, just scrapped tons of ice off the car

suspect early DDD, maybe just pinched a nerve when you were scraping, most likely cause.

if it radiates from the spine to the left lower back, like into the butt, and maybe down the leg some, that's sciatica, an impingement on the nerve in your sciatic notch.

could be radiculopathy, but probably not there yet.

if it's not radiating from the spine, but is a pai by itself in the left lower back, you also would consider kidney stones, which will end up hurting so much you will think you are dying. so at this point i guess not that.

but these are all guesses, and you should see a doctor and get it checked out.

if it is just the strain/sprain/pinched nerve from the ice scraping - first, don;t do that again, heat the car up.

second, lie flat on your back with your knees up and rest as much as you can.

third - if you're using NSAIDs or aspirin, or any pain reliever, take them as soon as th next dose is due before you start to get heavy pain again, or it takes more to work.

not a doctor, not a nurse. familiar with back pain to some extent.

strongly advise getting actual medical advice. and better meds. the OTC stuff will mess up your liver and kidneys worse than anything.

cold would be the thing but most people like heat, though it worsens inflammation. ice it if you can handle it, or leave it be i'd say.

or whatever your doctor says.

My chiropractor usually recommended heat for soothing pain and decreasing muscle tension, then switching to ice to bring down inflammation...back and forth, he says.

Maybe you just need to do some good stretching lee. Yoga! Or Tai chi..

DO NOT DO WHAT JOHNNY DON'T DOES!

you don't know what you've injured or how badly. this is not the time for yoga or stretching. you could make a bad situation much worse. like paresis, paralysis, incontinence worse.

lie flat, knees up, sleep sleep sleep.

doctor.

worry about strengthening when you've ruled out spinal injuries.

Tried stretching at work, luckily no one walked by my cube. LOL

Depending on how it feels tomorrow will determine if I need to call my doctor or not.

right on that, tiink.

here's a helpful tip i learned from an orthopedic nurse for when you have a bad backache and a cough at the same time - when you feel a cough or sneeze coming on, brace your back hard agaianst he back off your chair, or a wall. really ratchets the pain right down.
