 In their fourth year, Ron wrote a long letter to ask Hermione to the Yule Ball. But he didn't want to give it to her personally, so he left it in her Potions textbook one day when she left it in the common room. She saw it when she opened her book in the Great Hall and was ecstatic, but after reading it realized that the writer didn't sign his name. A few moments later Viktor Krum walked up to her and asked her to the Yule Ball. She assumed the letter was from him and said yes. Ron always thought that she had simply ignored the letter from him and so he decided to openly hate Krum in response. They didn't find out the truth until years later when they laughed about it together.
