ooooh

sympatric speciation my occur due to change in host, food or habitat preference. (so organisms may not cross paths so different populations on different hosts/ around different food/ in different habitats have no gene flow --> eventually develop RIM's and become different species)

or it could be caused by the partitioning of an important but limited resource (so organisms use in a different way or different place and so gene flow is stopped)

so flies may be forced to use a plant other than they might normally, and since some insects based their life cycles around the plant on which they were reared this may create a population of flies that do not interact with the flies that were all reared on the original plant species and so there is no gene flow between populations so speciation occurs eventually
