cerebrum = interpreting sensory input, higher order thought, voluntary actions

cerebellum = co-ordinates voluntary actions, maintains muscle tone, balance and equilibrium

medulla = continuous with the spinal cord. Contains cerebrospinal fluid which continues down the central canal of the spinal chord. contains centres for reflex actions e.g. breathing, heart rate, dilating/constricting blood vessels, salivation.

 

Conducts impulses from the spinal cord to brain and back again. Crosses them over as the go, .: the hemispheres of the brain control opposite sides of the body
