Seeds have special distribution mechanisms - dispersing over a wide area thus reducing competition (not all bunched up)

The seed coat and large amount of food enables the seed to survive harsh external conditions by remaining dormant

The testa (outer covering) and the cotyledons (parts of the seed that absorbs the endosperm) protect the embryo during the early stages of development

The food in the cotyledons provides the seedling with energy until it can reach a stage where it is developed enough to produce its own food
