aaaahhh, I'm not sure if I've just had a truely deep insight into a symbol in the great gatsby or if my tired mind is just making up stuff but...

OK, got a solid one now, some of the colours in Gatsby are purposefully juxtaposed, white should be representative of innocence but it portrays shallow and cynical people, yellow and especially gold mean wealth and by association, beauty but it comes in the novel as the colour of decay and corruption, of people, of symbols, of the American dream
