Where Does Rand Al'Thor get his Heron Mark Blade?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm re-reading Wheel of Time, in the third book, The Dragon Reborn. In the previous novel, The Great Hunt, Tam's heron marked blade that Tam gave to Rand is destroyed by the Dark One, but in the Dragon Reborn, it says, if I read correctly, that Rand slayed an entire merchant/merchants guard with a Heron Marked Blade...

My question is, where did he get this one? Did he steal it from the Seanshan Blademaster he defeated in Great Hunt?

He made it from the Power. If you'll notice it was 'carved from fire'.

Sweet, thank you! It's been years since I read W0T, but doesn't in later books he eventually takes another blademaster's blade?

The Aiel gave Rand Laman's sword after the Aiel took it from him after killing him in the Aiel war.

edit But if I remember correctly, the sword was more for looks than combat. I think Rand still made his sword that he use(d)(s) from the OP but I'm not certain about that.

Specifically, Aviendha gave it to him.

Yeah, as fulfillment for the Toh when Rand gave her the bracelet.

And he later winds up with a heron-marked blade with a dragon on the hilt, which people think is Justice (Artur Hawkwing's sword, possibly taken from Guaire Amalasan).

He confirmed it to certain people via email, not specifying that it should be kept secret, and before realising that word had spread stated that he hadn't confirmed it. He had, nevertheless, confirmed it.

The blade of Laman's sword was Power wrought, just the hilt was for show with a bunch of jewels. Rand removes those and gives them back to Avi and has a boar-hide grip put on the sword so he can use it. I don't remember him using his OP sword after he gets Laman's sword.

He does - at least once, in Shadar Logoth in ACoS.
