Hi all,

Well after years of reading the books, I'm finally joining the community. I started reading the books after a friend from a Disney board got tired of hearing me whine that I couldn't find anything to compare to Tolkien, and so she hooked me on the series that her boyfriend was reading. I think the series was up to about 3 or 4 books by then. Within a year, I was desperately waiting for each new book in the series. I'm not as bad (good?) as some here, but I've read each book at least two or three times.

My favorite thing about the books is the character development. I've always felt that Tolkien was a genius at creating and detailing a world, and Jordan was a genius at creating characters with growth and development. The three characters that I have consistently loved are Nynaeve, Verin, and Moiraine. In the first few books, Perrin was my favorite of "the three", but my interest in him flagged during the middle of the series, then surged again during and after Malden. Matt has been a surprise... he didn't capture my attention at first, but has steadily grown to be one of my favorite characters. The same with Egwene... I didn't like her in the first books, but as time went on I grew to love her storyline.

I'm an Architectural Designer, but I do some artwork on the side for my own pleasure. These are mostly watercolor, because this was the medium I used in Architecture until computers took over the field. I'm enthralled with illustrators from the Golden Age of Illustration in the first half of the 20th century, and my style incorporates some of their influence. I've included my one WOT piece in the gallery, an amusing scene of Matt and Tylin. I should have given it to Brandon or Harriet when I showed it to them back in 2009, but I knew I wanted to fiddle with Matt's face some more in photoshop. I finally found the time between family and work to get it tweaked, bordered and posted. Enjoy... hopefully soon I'll post several fairytale paintings on my new deviant art site. Hopefully I can find some time to do more soon... it's busy with 3 kids at the age when each is involved in different sports and arts, but my goal is to "retire" into illustration someday.

Looking forward to that grand finale book.... talk more soon. Edsel

Welcome! I love that you have so much to say about it, it helps us get to know each other and our own attachments to the series. If you have any questions you can feel free to ask me or even just to chit chat.

Hope you enjoy your stay at Dragonmount,

Froggy
