looking out at the snow and ice and frezing my butt off no matter how high i crank the heat right this moment i have rethought that last post and am now certain that a tropical island with a clear, quiet bay would indeed make me happy almost all of the time. and for hurricanes i'll go with the private jet.

no puddle jumpers tho. i dont like those at all.

even without the servants or the nice house or... just the sand and the water and the easy evac for bad storms would do it.

i've never been anything but happy at a beach.

I like beaches, but the sand gets me a bit, especially as I have a sun allergy and for a while I come out in these red lumps, after that I then tan...but not too much I'm quite fair skinned!

ok, separate island for evey member of the family with nice slow boats to travel between them when desired.

gonna need all the virgin islads.

or some archipelago somewhere, but we'll need to imports lots of servants and.... stuff. and things.

also really want a motor boat, a sweet little fast one, and a houseboat for when i want to sleep on the water. at least a good raft with a cabin.

so if you had all the money in the world, how would you spend it to make yourself happy?

and if it involves buying stuff for other people, you have all the money in the world for that too.

Um, I'd give 10% to God and burn the rest.

Okay, then I'll give some back where it came from and some to Africa. Assuming I still have a job, I probably don't need to keep any for myself.

ok. unless, you know, burning it is what would make you happy.

i think it would take way more than 1% to offset the tax burden, and 10%'s kind of a mini,u, anyway.

but in terms of pure off the top spending...

i want stuff and things.

I don't think buying stuff is worth it (the whole money can't buy happiness is, imo, correct). I'll just quote C.S. Lewis: "All that we call human history--money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery--[is] the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy." and "God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing."

if god gives me enough money to get to the island it will go a long way toward making me happy.

yes, yes, i understand what you're saying.

i need a beach.

People with 'nothing' (in poverty) are often more happy than those with millions of dollars at there disposal

ive been poor. it didnt make me happy. just gave me more to worry about.

i think happy is independent of wealth overall.

but there are things that money can buy that will make me smile.

and thats close enough to happy for me right now.

People who are poor are often enslaved by the wealth the don't have and they crave - and by the tyranny of small problems of everyday which become big problems when you have no money.

Money won't make you happy but it'll let you be unhappy in nice places, as they say

Free renouncing of wealth, as done by monks and such, is a different thing. That's true there is certain freedom in having very little - you're not afraid of losing things, do not have to care about them etc, don't have to guard them against others and become possesive. But it is just a byproduct of strong faith in immaterial values, which would give you happiness irrespective of your wealth. Also please notice that most of these people have their basic needs taken care of.

When you have money, you can care better for those close to you. Pay for better healing their sickneses, give them time to rest.

Poverty itself is a bad thing also for the spiritual development of human beings.

I'd like to have a nice house with a big library, lots of sports facilities and pieces of art, especially my fauvirute dragons-everywhere. And a big garden or maybe even a park. It would have to be in soemwhere warm, but not too hot.

Tropical island for a retreat would be great. Somewhere in the Carabean.

I'd also like to do something for others - start a foundation or two, help solve some problems of local community with my money. I'd love to be able to work not from necessity, but for enjoyment and helping others.

nice.

i don't go in for romanticizing poverty either. poverty is a bad thing.

wealth is not necessarily a good thing, but... yeah, the nice places.
