I haven't been this distraught since that time I forgot about WoT for a few years and WoTism went inactive.

So ah, yeah. Not my first time around, but my first time on this site.

A thread on RPG.net. I came for the FAQ (which seems a tad less beefy than the old faq) and decided to stay for everything else. And really, it's about time I bought the Brandon Sanderson novels and found out where things are going.

Welcome! Oh you've got so much to look forward to! Not to spoil anything, but Perring leaves Faile to go live with the Tinkers, Mat starts training as a ballet dancer, and Rand has found a new passion in interior design that soothes his madness. It's all so much fun ;D

Now I know you're lying. Everything seemed so plausible, except the bit where Perrin leaves Faile :)

Welcome to DM, Rallan!

Glad you found us and WoT again. To be honest, I'm just finishing Knife of Dreams right now, so I haven't still read the Sanderson's novels >.>

Who are your favourite and least favourite characters?

Feel free to ask if you've got any questions about the site!

Hope you will like it here! :)

Oh I guess if we're doing the basic fan quiz...

Favourites are:

Mat: easily the most likable and relatable of the major protagonists

Fain/Ordeith/Mordeth: all the major antagonists are kinda one-dimensional, but he's random enough to shake things up a bit and has his own agenda. If you're going to be a one-dimensional evil-for-evil's-sake villain, then you should take a note from Mordeth's book and be a totally erratic, unpredictable, superpowered badass who's completely at odds with all the other villains.

Verin: Because she is one of the few supporting characters to totally own events and dictate what's happening, and has the added bonus of being one of the few female characters that Jordan didn't do a terrible job of. I'd throw Cadsuane on the list for the same reasons, but Verin does it better and starts earlier in the series.

Pedron Niall: His worldview was assbackwards, but he was such a great example of a tragic hero who's got all the best intentions and is only let down by a fundamental misunderstanding of events. He could've been such a great wildcard character, and I'm still kinda peeved that he was killed and his powerbase wiped out to make room for some trite baloney involving Galad's inevitable redemption.

Egeanin: What can I say? I like tomboys. Ditto Brigitte, but especially Egeanin because I'm a sucker for a romantic subplot.

Weiramon: YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT AN EVIL GENIUS THIS BASTARD REALLY IS

Least faves:

Most of the Forsaken: they're goatee-stroking, mustache-twirling, one dimensional caricatures of villaindom. Lanfear (because her brand of villainy at least involves a bit of romantic melodrama) and Asmodean (because he unexpectedly delivered some pathos and managed to be the human face of the other side at the end) are the only real exceptions here. Quite a lot of other big antagonists can fit here as well, because so many of them are just so goofy and either make an endless string of terrible decisions, never really have any motive for being baddies, or both.

Elaida: totally irrational and unconvincing. She goes into the series with some really good motives that are hinted at in her backstory, but once she becomes the Amyrlin she basically spends all day holding the idiot ball. And a shame too, because if Jordan wasn't so bad at writing female characters, Elaida could've been like Pedron Niall.

Perrin: worst of the main protagonists. I hate him more than I hate Faile.

Narg: Nah just kiddin', everybody loves Narg.

Fine, I lied, he takes Faile with him :P

I am so gonna keep an eye on you to find out your reactions to certain stuffs as you get on the BS-books ^^

There won't be much of a reaction to Sanderson's big reveal about Verin, because that's been spoiled for me already. Other than that though, I'm in virgin territory.

Aw sorry bout that man, it sucks to have that spoiled, that was my favourite part of TGS, reading the first time and getting that shock. Well, it's still a greatly written scene that I very much enjoy to read.

I would like to understand why Bloody Weiramon is so smart xD?

Bring them theoris in!!

Every time you ever see Weiramon he is completely and utterly ruining Rand's plans, and he keeps getting away with it. Every single time he's in a battle scene, he will launch some grand vainglorious charge that gets thousands of people killed and very nearly ruins everything for the good guys. If he's not running around being useless when they liberate Cairhien from the Shaido Aiel, he's launching cavalry charges uphill at fortresses defended by Sammael. And if he's not doing that, he's launching cavalry charges through dense forest (always the best kind of terrain for cavalry charges) that accidentally leave Rand al'Thor wide open to an attack by Seanchan troops and channelers. And when he's not screwing up in the field, he's forever running around being a monumental ass in a way that makes Rand's multinational forces hate each other. He is, in short, a total evil genius. And somehow he keeps surviving all of this (and not just surviving, but prancing around with his fancy clothes and immaculate mustaches intact) despite hte fact that more often than not he's leading those suicidal cavalry charges from the front.

For a while (especially after the Taimandred theory got shot down), Weiramondred was a seriously legit theory in the fan community because Weiramon's whole bumbling fool act just looked so damn sinister when you tallied up the sheer amount of damage he'd done to Rand's side and the sheer number of times when Rand had almost been defeated because of Weiramon's "mistakes". The Weiramondred theory eventually got shot down thanks to some conversations he had with Asha'man who we know are Darkfriends, but those same conversations seemed to confirm that he's a Darkfriend.

And if he is a Darkfriend, he's been more successful than pretty much any other Darkfriend in the novels apart from Slayer and some of the Forsaken.
