Nynaeve sat on her bed, her shoulders slumped. The visit she paid the Mistress of Novices wasn't a pleasant one, as expected. She told her everything that happened. She gave all the details. Even the ones she would have preferred to leave out. But Faerzynne was too precise in her questions and Nynaeve had no way of sparing any details.

Nynaeve told Faerzynne that she realized what she did was wrong. The policy about hitting Novices or Accepted was very clear. Don't!

Physical punishments were only administered by the Mistress of Novices. And her alone. No Aes Sedai was allowed to take judgment on her own. Let alone carry out the punishment.

Nynaeve was surprised when she found herself asking Faerzynne to go easy on Lillian. But fair was fair. Nynaeve was the one to hit her first. No matter how much Nynaeve felt she deserved it. And she still did. But the first blow came from her part. That much she was ready to admit.

Nynaeve told Faerzynne that she wasn't going to go seek healing. She was going to heal the old fashion way. A punishment of a sort. Seeing the bruising covering her body, Faerzynne accepted. But Nynaeve knew there had to be a punishment. Examples had to be made all the times, in order to discourage bad behavior. Nynaeve more then understood it. But it was funny how things look differently when you're jammed in the middle.

Nynaeve left her room, going down flights of stairs. She didn't know how long it took her to get down to the storage level but she dreaded the moment she will have to climb all the way up. She suspected, though, that it was going to be a long while before she could make her way back up.

Finding the assigned storage room, Nynaeve stepped in. It was quite apparent that the room hasn't been entered to in years. Or even dusted. Nynaeve channeled a tiny thread of air and used it to clear the dust to one side of the room. She wasn't allowed to use Saidar so she was quick to release it. She grabbed a pile of books out of the thousand in the room and set it on the floor. Sitting herself down, she took the first book. Opening it, she started to dust the pages carefully with a feather brush Faerzynne was 'kind' enough to offer.

Just when she was going to move on to the second book, the door opened. Nynaeve was rather surprised to find Lillian standing there.

The Mistress of Novices had been... Well, she had only been to her office three times beyond doing chores such as delivering messages. Once when she had first arrived and been signed into the Novice Roll, the second time Lillian didn't remember but it had been when she had been sent to the farm. Now this time, for engaging in a fist fight with an Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah, who had been a Mistress of Novices herself before Faerzynne Sedai had taken the position no less.

Yet beyond this, Lillian had an impeccable record. She wasn't the finest student, but she was one of the harder working and she hadn't been known to slack off in her tasks. She was respectful to Aes Sedai, and she had never been required to go to the Mistress of Novice's office for any other infractions. This had given her some leniency, even if it hadn't spared her. Then again, she couldn't expect to be spared after she had struck an Aes Sedai, even if she had been struck first.

The details could not be kept from her either. Lillian had admitted to quite deliberately provoking Nynaeve Sedai's fist. She'd attempted to unbalance Nynaeve Sedai enough for the woman to make a fool of herself, or to give Lillian a slap which would then have given her a way to get Nynaeve Sedai off her back. But she hadn't anticipated that fist, or her own anger which had led to the violent struggle that had followed. Still, what was done was done and Lillian would take what punishment she was allotted without complaint. Not that a complaint would have helped.

So it was that Lillian had changed from her training gear into the band hemmed dress of an Accepted and made her way to from the Accepted Quarters to the White Tower. From there, she descended into the lower levels of the White Tower as she searched for the storage room where she was to dust. She had been spared a birching, there seemed little point with the bruises on her face, arms and chest. Instead, she would have to carry out her punishment in the company of Nynaeve Sedai.

It seemed Faerzynne Sedai believed that misery loved company.

The door was ajar, but Lillian threw it wide before stepping inside the assigned storage room. Frowning at the look that Nynaeve Sedai gave her, she raised an eyebrow as she held up her duster so that the woman could see it. The next thing she did was embrace saidar and it sweetness. The rule with punishments was that one couldn't use the one power to complete a task, but the task hadn't stipulated working blindly in the dark.

Weaving a couple of orbs of light, she tied the weaves off so the room was bathed in a warm light before letting saidar escape. Lillian also decided against shutting the door as she wrinkled her nose, the dust was terrible, but the books were her first priority. Taking up a stack of books, she sat herself down a goodly number of feet away from Nynaeve Sedai and began to work in silence. There seemed little point in speaking, the last thing she needed was a second visit to the Mistress of Novices' office in the same day for anything other than returning the duster she had been loaned.

Nynaeve eyed Lillian for a long moment. But not for the reason she was probably thinking. Nynaeve was just appreciating Faerzynne's twisted sense of humor. Behind the penance she gave Nynaeve was another one hidden which she neglected to notice. It was rather clever, come to think of it. Nynaeve's lips curled into an amused smile.

Getting a penance was one thing. But going through it with the very person that was the reason for it all was ridiculous. To Nynaeve, at least. She was sure it would seem different to any other person but her. She was even sure Damian was going to get a kick from it all.

Nynaeve finished her pile of books and got up to reach for a new pile. Lillian was getting a new batch of books as well. They avoided each other, as if the other did not existed. That bubble bursted when Lillian accidentally dropped a book on Nynaeve's foot. That made Nynaeve jolt and drop all the books in her hands, every book toppling over the rest."

"Too bad your grip isn't as good as your men hunting skills. You should work on it, though."

Having Nynaeve's gaze upon her troubled Lillian little. Past experiences aside, being covered in bruises and dusting with the woman that had given those same bruises to her was not conducive to a respectful environment, let alone one where she was worried about that particular Aes Sedai's gaze upon her. In fact, she was almost able to completely ignore Nynaeve Sedai's presence as she worked her way through the heavy tomes, one page at a time. By the time she was done with her stack, Lillian was fairly certain she had thoroughly the art of page dusting.

Putting those books aside, Lillian stood beside Nynaeve Sedai who was collecting a new stack of books to work on. Not wanting to have to come in close proximity of her repeatedly, Lillian decided to help herself to a bigger stack of books so she wouldn't have to worry about Nynaeve Sedai being in her way. Unfortunately, this proved to be slightly ambitious and as she passed Nynaeve Sedai a book slipped from the top and fell on the Aes Sedai's foot. Already setting down her books to help, she had a couple of Nynaeve Sedai's books in hand when she heard what the woman said.

Looking up at Nynaeve Sedai, Lillian quite deliberately dropped the books she had collected and simply retrieved her own. She hadn't meant to help, she'd done it automatically out of habit but if that was how her good gesture was going to be repaid then so be it. Placing the book on her pile, she lifted it up and as she was walking away she said in a calm yet clear voice. "The day I require your advice will be the day I'm transformed into a stupid cow with oversized teats and a case of bloat."

Setting her books down, Lillian sat on the floor as she continued. "As my name isn't Nynaeve Sedai, that day has not come."

"The day I require your advice will be the day I'm transformed into a stupid cow with oversized teats and a case of bloat. As my name isn't Nynaeve Sedai, that day has not come."

Nynaeve laughed amusingly. Lillian was somewhat taken aback by her response, blinking rather confusingly. "You know what I've heard? That a good sense of humor really comes in handy in those lonely nights at the farm. Those nights really seem to stretch sometimes, you know."

Nynaeve winked at Lillain, picked up the books from the floor and went back to the corner of the room, retaking the dusting task. It was getting rather difficult to breath in the room with all the added dust that the books provided. Nynaeve sneezed a few times, dropping everything she was doing and holding her hand closely to her mouth. Nynaeve had a feeling it was going to take a long time until she could breath proper air.

Lillian almost broke the duster when she heard Nynaeve Sedai's rejoinder. Forcing her hand to relax, her smooth face remained intact, barely. The woman had doubtlessly sent many women to the farm but what would she know of it? That it was a handy threat to hang over a woman's head or a fine place to send unwanted problems? She wouldn't have any idea what it was like to toil there day after day, and during which be unable to reach for the thing that made them different, saidar denied for to touch it would be to condemn oneself in the same moment.

Or the nights that did stretch, when despite working oneself dead during the day there was saidar keeping you awake. Like the story of the sun and the wind, it didn't try and rip away your protective cloak, it simply attempted to make it impossible for you to wear it because you yourself wanted to take it away. But no, Nynaeve Sedai would have no idea of what it was like, she was a fool and one who Lillian wasn't going to let that slide with. Accepted or not, she was damned if she was going to let Nynaeve Sedai get the best of her. Pigheaded tramp.

"A sense of humour is also good for those lonely nights with no one beside you. You might want to try developing one because I doubt you'll have Damian for much longer." There, see how she liked that.

Nynaeve smiled. "Then it's a good thing I have it, don't it?". Nynaeve put down the book she finished dusting and picked up the next. "Damian is a big boy. He'd know when he had enough. Then he'll probably move on to seconds." Nynaeve met Lillian's eyes, making it abundantly clear who she meant.

Her stomach started rambling at her mention of seconds. She could have used something to eat at that moment, but the prospect of climbing up all those stairs only to return at a later hour, made her appetite disappear.

Nynaeve Sedai's response had been rather quick, Lillian would have given her that if she wasn't so resentful of her. This was the very first punishment she had ever been given for an infraction, save her time spent on the farm. The first, and it had been due to Nynaeve Sedai's pushing. Of course, she'd shoved back, but so what? She didn't take kindly to being called a slut, which for all intents and purposes Nynaeve Sedai had done. All well and good for an Aes Sedai to make that comment when they themselves clearly had a bond that went further than brother and sister and flounced about in dresses like Nynaeve Sedai had worn.

Dresses that she wasn't allowed to wear, because then she would be indecent and putting herself in an awful situation with a man. The hypocrisy of it genuinely annoyed Lillian, and as hard as it was to ruffle her normally there it was. Nynaeve Sedai had something she couldn't have, and then she had accused her of having it. Of course, Lillian had said she was going to get it, specifically from what must have been Nynaeve Sedai's warder, but that was it.

Of course while Nynaeve Sedai's delivery was good, it was also marred by a rumble. Not just a rumble, but a groan that came from within Nynaeve Sedai. Smirking as opposed to laughing outright, Lillian was quick to seize on it in turn. "It sounds like the only person who will be wanting seconds of anything is you when you get to the Dining Hall." Looking critically at the woman's hips, Lillian added. "Probably thirds as well."

"It sounds like the only person who will be wanting seconds of anything is you when you get to the Dining Hall. Probably thirds as well."

Nynaeve smiled. "What a splendid Idea. Why don't you go fetch me some, Accepted." Nynaeve didn't even raise her eyes to Lillian when she spoke. It wasn't a request. It was an order. And Lillian would respect that if she didn't want more insignificant chores.

Nynaeve stood up with a finished pile of books. She suddenly felt all the blood running downward, away from her head. Nynaeve never heard the sound of the books hitting the floor heavily. Her knees were quick to follow as they gave away, making her land on her knees. She could feel hands around her shoulders as they leaded her back safely. Everything blurred into darkness.

What?!

Straining her ears to listen to the pair of yellow sisters speaking of Nynaeve Sedai, Lillian's face alternated between red and white as she listened to them. The subject of their discussion laying peacefully before her, Lillian looked over the Aes Sedai. Her injuries had been healed, though Fayth Sedai when she had finished had seemed very perturbed. It was little wonder why, now that Lillian knew she could see why Fayth Sedai had been so disturbed, and why she was speaking to Sendra Sedai of it now.

Nynaeve Sedai wasn't awake yet, perhaps there was something she could do in the meantime. Walking over to the pair of Aes Sedai that went silent as she neared, she curtseyed then asked if she could go to the Dining Hall and bring a meal back for Nynaeve Sedai. Getting permission to do so, Lillian curtseyed once more and left them behind her.

As she quickly made her way to the Dining Hall, the event kept replaying itself in her mind. As Nynaeve Sedai had told her to go fetch some food, Lillian had been preparing an angry retort when the books that Nynaeve Sedai was carrying spilled to the ground. Scrabbling across the floor as Nynaeve Sedai fell hard on her knees, she barely caught her in time to lower her gently onto her back.

Holding a hand over Nynaeve Sedai's mouth, Lillian could still feel her breathing. On the otherhand she wasn't responding to light slaps across the cheek, or not so light slaps. Scooping up Nynaeve Sedai in her arms, Lillian had carried her all the way up to the ground level. Something she would not have been able to do before she had begun her training, by the time they had reached the top her back had been just about ready to snap.

Shaking her head of those thoughts as she entered the Dining Hall, Lillian went straight into the kitchen. It wasn't long before she was walking out with a tray carrying a couple of pastries, a bowl of stew and several slices of bread. As Lillian made her way back to the infirmary, she continued to replay what had occured.

It had been pure luck that Fayth Sedai had been the first sister she had come across, or perhaps it was the Creator's blessing. Either way, she had quickly looked over Nynaeve Sedai and healed her on the spot. Not before her face revealed confusion then surprise, something Lillian had just put down to Fayth Sedai seeing her fellow sister bruised so. Thankfully, Fayth Sedai hadn't seen fit to ask why, or why Lillian carried bruises herself. Instead she'd been told to take up Nynaeve Sedai again and Lillian had carried her to the infirmary with Fayth Sedai leading the way. They'd put Nynaeve Sedai straight into a bed and Fayth Sedai had left her to watch over Nynaeve Sedai while she discussed the matter with Sendra Sedai.

Dismissing such contemplation as she saw Damian approaching, he looked a little wild eyed as he demanded repeatedly to know what was wrong with Nynaeve Sedai. Somewhere between the demands, Lillian picked out that the Yellow Sisters had kicked him out of the infirmary the moment he had set foot inside and had forbidden him from going in. They had then had to use the one power to force him outside. She was nearly on the verge of doing so herself when Fayth Sedai, who had heard the commotion outside the infirmary, ordered Damian to get out of the way which allowed Lillian continue.

Taking the tray inside, she placed it on the bedstand beside Nynaeve Sedai and took her seat once again. It wasn't long after that Nynaeve Sedai began to come to. Standing from her chair, Lillian instead sat herself on the bed now so that Nynaeve Sedai wouldn't have to turn her head as they spoke. And speak they would, because there was something that she needed to say.

"Nynaeve Sedai? Nynaeve Sedai?" Averting her eyes as Nynaeve Sedai's began to focus, Lillian's voice was small as she spoke. "I am so sorry Nynaeve Sedai, I shouldn't have acted as I did to begin with but... I didn't realise. But there has been no harm done."

Nynaeve Sedai's question made Lillian's eyes widen and threw her enough that she looked into Nynaeve Sedai's gaze. "You don't know? Nynaeve Sedai, you're pregnant."

The shock on the Aes Sedai's face answered that question, she had not known at all. "I overheard Fayth Sedai inform Sendra Sedai that your child is unharmed. But you should eat now, your other injuries were healed as well." Helping Nynaeve Sedai sit up, the woman seeming in a bit of a daze, Lillian took up the tray and sat it on the Aes Sedai's lap. "I will go and fetch you some water, I will be back in just a moment."

Turning, Lillian went to find a glass. If nothing else, it would give Nynaeve Sedai a moment to come to grips with the news.

A jolt of desperation through the bond is what made Nynaeve come to. She could feel Damian was in distress. He was worried, anxious and extremely frustrated for some reason. Opening her eyes slowly and finding herself in the infirmary was self explanatory concerning Damian's state. That meant that he was okay. Only worried for her well being. Only, what in the bloody hell was she doing in the Infirmary? and how did she get there?

"Nynaeve Sedai? Nynaeve Sedai?". Nynaeve opened her eyes at the mention of her name. Her vision was blurred and she had to blink a few time to realize it was Lillian talking to her. "I am so sorry Nynaeve Sedai, I shouldn't have acted as I did to begin with but... I didn't realize. But there has been no harm done."

Nynaeve blinked. No harm done? What was the wretched girl going on about. What possible harm could she have done? Their fight was long over and Nynaeve got out of it with some bruising but nothing that wouldn't be healed in time. moving a bit to adjust herself, Nynaeve realized that all the pain of the bruises was gone. She's been healed. But why?

"What are you talking about, Lillian. What harm?". Nynaeve was starting to get concerned. Maybe she received a blow to the head and it only surfaced now.

Lillian was quick to answer."You don't know? Nynaeve Sedai, you're pregnant."

Goose bumps ran all over Nynaeve's body. "WHAT?", was the only response that escaped Nynaeve's mouth. Her mouth remained open. Her mind was frozen. She was frozen. Then Nynaeve laughed and shook her head, waving a finger at Lillian. "This is some sort of vengeance, isn't it. A joke. To get back at me. I get it. Very funny, Accepted."

Lillian replied with certainty."I overheard Fayth Sedai inform Sendra Sedai that your child is unharmed. But you should eat now, your other injuries were healed as well." Lillian helped Nynaeve sit up. "I will go and fetch you some water, I will be back in just a moment." Lillian existed the room, leaving Nynaeve alone.

Nynaeve's eyes kept moving from one place of the room to another. She couldn't be pregnant. She didn't want children. She didn't have too much fondness towards them. She wasn't pregnant! It was a vile lie!

Getting off the bed, she put on her shoes and left the room, to find Damian standing outside. Damian tried to embrace her but Nynaeve pushed him away. "You! You did this to me!" Damian looked at her confusingly and grabbed her hand. Nynaeve pulled her hand away. "Don't touch me, don't you touch me ever again!". Nynaeve ran out the infirmary, not stopping until she reached her chambers.

Nynaeve sat on her bed with an expression of utter shock. "Madness", she mumbled under her breath. She slipped under the covers and fell asleep, hoping she'd wake up to find it was all a dream.

Fetching the glass didn't take long, but Lillian was puzzled when she returned to Nynaeve Sedai's bed and found it empty. The tray's contents had been left on the bedstand and barely touched, where had Nynaeve Sedai gone? Setting the glass down on the tray, Lillian took the opportunity to ask about. A couple of people had seen her walk in the direction of the exit and it was there that she found Damian.

The look on his face betrayed all kinds of shock and confusion. Was he the father then? That would explain why Nynaeve Sedai had reacted so badly to her being near him, their bond was clearly one of love that was not akin to the brother-sister relationship that most Aes Sedai had with their Warders. He really hadn't taken the news well? Or perhaps it was so unexpected that he just needed time to accept it. Either way, it was clear that Nynaeve Sedai was gone and she was going to have to return the tray.

Retrieving the tray, Lillian passed by Damian and flashed him a broad smile. "Congratulations." He looked even more confused but Lillian just put it down to the moment as she passed him by. Leaving the infirmary, it was the Accepted halls she left for rather than the Dining Hall. It would be a waste of good food to simply return it straight away, and there would have to be a couple of people that would be interested in a pastry or some stew...

Damian wasn't sure when it happened... but he remembered the moment. Practice swords knocking against each other, the intricate steps being taken. He almost didn't notice it at first. But it was there, something had happened to Nynaeve. It wasn't necessarily something bad, but it was not good either. He stopped his practice and began a quick jog to the tower.

He could tell she was being moved. It felt as though they were taking every precaution they could as well. She had fainted again. This wasn't the first time he had felt her faint. The last time he was with her. He quickened his pace. The last time she had not wanted to visit the infirmary. This time, she had no choice.

He walked into the infirmary and made a bee line for her room. She couldn't say anything this time. She would stay here until they knew exactly what was wrong with her. He turned to enter her room and found himself face to face with her.

"You! You did this to me!" He looked at her confusingly and grabbed her hand. Nynaeve pulled her hand away. "Don't touch me, don't you touch me ever again!". What in the light was going on!? Before he could get two words out she ran out of the infirmary. He just stood there in shock.

"Congratulations." He turned to see that girl, Lillian with a large smile on her face. What was she doing here? What had she done? Why was Nyna so upset with him. He sighed. They had had there ups and downs before, especially when they first met. Maybe it was his turn to play the sane one. Gathering himself he walked out of the infirmary and back to the training yards to try and forget what had just happened.

Sleep never came. Nynaeve was laying in her bed, her thoughts running wild. Things she regretted. Things she could have done differently. So many ifs that made her want to scream. But after a few hours of reflection she finally came to a conclusion. What was done was done. There was nothing else to be done but accept it and carry on. She was pregnant. She and Damian were going to have a baby. And now her new purpose in life was to keep that baby safe from harms way. The way of accomplishing that had to be found. She needed to talk it through with Damian.

Her eyes widened at Damian's mention in her thoughts. He didn't know yet. She could feel he was worried. She had to break it to him. Suddenly a new fear overtook her. Would Damian leave her after he learned she is pregnant? They weren't ready for a child. That much was clear to her. But they had to endure. The decision was taken from their hands and they had to face whatever was coming.

Getting out of bed, Nynaeve put on her shoes and grabbed her shawl, draping it around her shoulders. She reached the Warder's yard in no time. She found Damian practicing with a Tower Guard. "May I speak with you for a moment, Damian?". Damian nodded and the Tower Guard that was practicing with him winked at him. Nynaeve blinked and decided not to react.

Nynaeve took Damian out of hearing distance, into the little garden next to the yard. Taking a deep breath of courage, Nynaeve raised her eyes to meet Damian's. She knew him. He was her Damian. But she had no idea how the news were going to affect him. She had more chances of predicting the outcome of the last battle.

"Damian. I keep running this conversation through my head over and over again. And it can end in so many ways. The only thing that is clear to me is that I don't want to lose you." Nynaeve leaned closer and gave Damian a light kiss on the lips. "I'm sure that deep inside you already know what is happening. My fainting. Me feeling sick. I am pregnant, Damian."

Ooc: ok...bomb dropped ;)

Damian laughed. Laughed! Nynaeve couldn't be pregnant! She was Aes Sedai. They never got pregnant. Something kept them from getting that way. With a smirk on his face he looked at her again.

Oh crap! She was Aes Sedai! She couldn't lie! What in the world?? She was pregnant!?! It couldn't be! That little tramp! No... wait... it was his. There was no doubting that. And he could feel the apprehension and fear through the bond. He hadn't realized what it was before he got there, but it was there now.

Something told him he should suddenly feel afraid, or excited, or nervous, or all of the above. Instead, something like determination set over him. Or at least, his determination increased, and he knew why. He smiled down at her.

"Well, this is a suprise isn't it. I guess we just made my job that much harder now didn't we."

"Harder? What are you talking about Damian?"

"Well, now, not only do I have to keep you safe, I have to keep the babe safe as well! Besides, what better gift could we give to the world that half of my craziness combined with the power? Almost too crazy!"

Suddenly a very disturbed though crossed his mind. The crazy mind, the ability to channel... could his child end up being the dragon reborn???
