So the Olympics start soon, will you be watching, or more specifically what will you be watching, and how does your country usually do?

I didn't watch much of the last Olympics, actually none at all.

Not that I really missed out on much, SA only got one medal, silver in long jump by a Khotso Mokoena I believe

I'm a little more curious this time round, I'm keen to spend 10 seconds of my time watching the 100m and then tune into some other random ones, like table tennis

We no haz a tv at home, so never watched much Olympics...although we had extensive school projects on them :P

I like watching teh athletics, especially sprinting, some horse disciplines (dressage bores teh taint outta me but eventing ish awesome)

Gymnastics iz fun - they're advertising their 'hero' here, apparently there's a Chilean gymnast worth watching out for :)

Maybe some triathlon...swimming...whatever the family is watching :P

Oh an definitely the opening ceremony!! :D

The opening ceremony is usually the best part. The British sure know how to showcase themselves to the world, so I'm expecting something quite grand.

As for events, I just watch whatever is on TV at the time. Last Olympics, I was fascinated by the diving events as well as some of the swimming races. Who knows what it will be this time?

i never watch the opening it bores me but i MUST watch day one for the Diving i usually watch the swimming cause oz is good or were were :( love the gymnastics but not the floor of ribbon crap and of course track and field for some reason i love the pole vaulting

Fencing is my favorite.

Although, watching attractive neat and well-proportioned people go crazy against each other is always fun.

aaah fencing, that might be fun to watch

Of course I will watch the opening on Friday. I will mostly watch the athletics but Olympics is fun because then you can see all sports that you never watch otherwise, like judo.

and handball, which I have yet to watch

Noooooooooooo! Ever since I read that I can´t get that stupid song out of my head.

If you wanna be my lover...

*sigh*

@ Smiley - I watched a lot of handball in the 90´s. Sweden was really good at handball back then. It´s fun.

I caught last years a little bit. Saw Usein (sp) Bolt set the world record. That was pretty amazing. I am looking forward to the race between Michael Phelps and his boy. I can;t remember his name. They are like rivals.

I like to watch the odd games. Shot put, discus, pole vault, etc.

What was the opening ceremony like then? I totally forgot it was on.

Was it completely rubbish?

I think the general sentiment is that it was quite good, very englishy, had Mr Bean, James Bond

I spent a lot of the morning watching Olympics, gymnastics was really cool and I got my first glimpse of Handball which is very different. South Africa might be in for a gold in swimming later today...

That US gymnastics team was insanely good, only problem was those penalties in the floor event...

and that English woman's uneven bars was amazing, Elizabeth something (Tw-something)
