Empy's EARLY Best Picture Oscar Predicitions

Yeah, I admit I have not seen all these movies yet, but once I talk Yveva into it, I will have a better list for you. But from all the Oscar buzz and critics, here is what I think will be nominated for best picture.

The Departed - Duh, I said this was best picture material when I saw it the FIRST time in the theatre.

The Good Shepherd - I am very excited about this upcoming film.

Letters from Iwo Jima - Clint Eastwood, you make movie gold. The Japanese companion to Flags of our Fathers.

The Queen - Looks boring... perfect for an oscar nod.

Little Miss Sunshine - I have heard only good things about this movie.

Here are my close but not quite Oscar nods:

Babel

Apocalypto

Blood Diamond - please no!

Dreamgirls

If I get some response from this post, I will post my Lead Actors Oscar Predicitions as well.

It's tough living in a town with one movie screen that tends to prefer playing films like "Big Mama's House 3" and "Flicka" over more Oscar-worthy fare. So suffice to say, I have only seen one movie from your list, although I do hope to see all of them before Oscar night.

That said, the one film I did see, Little Miss Sunshine, is a shoe in for an Oscar nomination, but definitely a long shot for a win. Sounds to me like The Departed is going to be the film to beat. And it may actually break Scorcese's Oscar curse for the Directing award.

I still haven't seen Little Miss Sunshine, even though I really REALLY wanted to, and still want to hrmpf.

Yeah I do too. We should go sometime soon before it is not on the big screen.

Ok I have done my homework and have an updated list of predicitions for anyone interested.

Best Picture

I have no interest in this movie and frankly tired of biopics winning Oscars, but Dreamgirls has all the Oscar momentum to win big.

The next two films are possibly the only competition to Dreamgirls. Personally I think The Departed is the best film of the year. Right, I haven't seen Dreamgirls yet, but I saw the Departed twice in the theatre.

I hear only good things about The Queen, but really can not make myself sit through this film. I will probably watch it once it comes out on netflix or something.

Babel is the new Crash, or so I hear. I find that hard to believe as Crash was a moving film that deserved best picture and I just can't believe Brad Pitt could move me in a film.

Letters from Iwa Jima is a film I am greatly excited about. I love a movie that shows a different point of view from the one American's do not often think about. I mean the Japanese were evil... right?

Close but not close enough:

Little Miss Sunshine (this could knock out Babel or Letters)

Pan's Labyrinth (critics love it and all those lucky enough to see it are raving about it, will probably win in Foreign Language though)

Little Children (look for nominations in acting and writing, but probably snubbed for best pic)

United 93 (poor showing at the box office will keep this a long shot)
