College Textbooks

They are INCREDIBLY expensive. I realize that this is not news to most of you, but still. Two hundred dollars a book? Seriously?

Even used, they're pretty pricy. I would find the cleanest "used" copies I could, then mark them up with highlighters/pencil, with notes and such. I kept all my textbooks for future reference.

I think one of the reasons textbooks are so pricy is because publishers have a very limited demographic to whom they can sell same. But what really burns me is when publishers issue a new edition that contains virtually nothing that is "new" in terms of new information. This forces students to buy brand new books rather than being able to find used ones.

What I learned to do Maw is that most classes don't use the textbook (I didn't even crack a textbook till Junior year), except those that are math (you are going to do problems in the book), anything with engineering, or maybe even some of the sciences, but in the rest you probably wont need them. If you do need them I would say go look at a bookstore that resells books ie. Bookman's etc. If you do a little hunting you can find them, if that doesn't work you might try ebay, or craigslist, people are selling textbooks on those all the time. I understand your pain lol. Good luck to you.

Eh, i'm not actually in college yet, just taking a couple classes through a high school program. So its actually the school district paying for these, not me. But they are really expensive, all the same. Not looking forward to having to buy my own in a year or two.
