Lord of the Rings!!!

Okay, I'm pretty sure that most everyone has read, watched, or both read and watched the Lord of the Rings before. If you haven't... now would be a good time. I'll admit that the books weren't the best, but that's just my personal opinion. The movies however.... I'm really excited for The Hobbit movie that's coming out in December in the US. Can you guys wait to see it? I was thinking we could have a discussion about Lord of the Rings, so whoever wants to start is welcome...

I <3 LOTR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait for the Hobbit either!! They're making THREE movies O.o

My parents were thinking about whether we could go to the premiere :D (not see the movie then, just hang out by the red carpet thing XD)

The first movie came out when I was in high school, and I believe truly was amazing, and brought it to plenty of people who thought fantasy novels were lame.

That being said, I think Jordan eclipsed Tolkien by far and created something beyond fantasy.

^ definately!

I first saw Lord of the Rings when I was 4, and I have loved it ever since... although Shelob scared me until I was 12. I think the Hobbit should be split in 2, not 3 because that's just too long.

I think they are dropping the ball splitting Hobbit in three. Two would have worked. Two is a lot more natural, since the book is divided into two parts. And I'm actually more excited about the new Bond movie coming out.

I'm not sure if they're splitting the Hobbit tale into three - or rather, making the third movie something between Hobbit and LotR. PJ mentioned something about having so much stuff from the annexes/extra info, they can't fit it into two movies. So maybe - something focusing on events after Bilbo returns to Hobbiton :)

I remember talking with Dad a few years ago whether they'd ever have a movie covering that timespan....i.e. Aragorn's service in Rohan and Gondor, or when he captures Gollum before the LotR trilogy takes place blah blah blah *shrug* Viggo's kinda old for the part now though :P

the movies were pretty. the books were nice. to other fantasy/literature fans i would recommend reading the Hobbit and LotR for legacy purposes but i won't read them a second time.

well, they'd have to have a younger actor to play a younger Aragorn anyways

Is true...

HAHA maybe Steve Townsend will get his chance now XDDD

who's that? I can't wait for Bond either... I hear that Legolas is supposed to be in the Hobbit!

Townsend was cast in the role of Aragorn first, but they figured he was 'too young' to fit the character properly. Viggo Mortensen was a last-minute change, so the other actor was very....put out :P

^ totally...

I'll...I'll fightcha for him!!!

mk ... not really, cuz he's married :sad:

I am really looking forward to this. I used to read LOTR ever year for like six years before I got into WoT and other books.

I still think Viggo could play Aragorn now, easy.

I'm actually looking forward to it. I know it's going to be good because it's in the hands of a director I trust with Tolkien's work. But unfortunately, this time they won't be taking the hobbits to Isenguard.

The Hobbit's going to be amazing. Splitting it into three is blatantly a money making exercise but you can be sure they'll be made very well so I'm not complaining!

I love the Lord of the Rings books, reading them now in fact for the millionth time. I'd go so far as to say they're my favourite books.

Also, Viggo Mortensen - what a guy.

I can't wait for the Hobbit, but I agree 2 movies not three. If they leave anything out from the book, I will be so mad. It should be good, can't wait. I have read LOTR which was nice, and I saw it when I was 10, although it came out way before that.

Well The lord of the rings were the first books I read.. After that i became a Huge fan of tolkien he did an amazing job :) For me one of the top 3 fantasy ever writen :)

The movies were good and peter jackson did a good job to :) But the books Imo are little bit bettert :)

I have miniature games and I play the cardgame :)

I also have all the books that Tolkien wrote and the ones about him and his books :)
