Matty (Damer Flinn) v. Smiley (M'Hael)

 

Damer Flinn

 

 

Flinn served in the Queen's Guards of Andor for forty years until he took a Murandian lance in the thigh and was forced to retire. He was one of the first few men who willingly came to the Farm (which would one day grow into the Black Tower) after Rand al'Thor announced his amnesty. Flinn was the first man to be tested, and Mazrim Taim determined that he could channel if taught. The reason Flinn came was because he wanted to learn how to Heal. At the recommendation of Corlan Dashiva, Flinn begins to explore his Talent for Healing.

 

He was in the Battle of Dumai's Wells, and afterwards was chosen to be among the Asha'man to accompany Rand al'Thor back to Cairhien. He has not returned to the Black Tower since.

 

He is one of Rand's bodyguards when he meets with the Sea Folk and makes the Bargain. Flinn has a Talent for Healing, and was able to stabilize Rand al'Thor after the latter's wounding by Padan Fain with the Shadar Logoth dagger.

 

Mazrim Taim - The M'Hael

 

 

Mazrim Taim is a very powerful channeler, rivaled only by Logain Ablar and a few other Asha'man and surpassed only by Rand al'Thor and some of the Forsaken. Evidence of his immense channeling ability would be the destruction he is able to cause in Saldaea and how he was able to overpower his Aes Sedai captors. The fact that Rand al'Thor chooses him to be a teacher at the farm is also evidence of his channeling ability and skill.

Round 1:

 

Damer strode into the Arena in his black Asha'man cloak, trying to hide his limp; it was still troubling him somewhat after so many years!

 

Facing his opponent he forgot about that though... the M'hael! Against Damer Flinn! This was either very good... or very bad... It could end with him patching up Taim, or being patched up...

 

Enough philosophy, Damer concentrated on the task ahead and grasped Saidin! Shoving aside his collection of healing weaves he dived straight to the most basic weave of destruction he knew; Lava!

This Damer Flinn was an interesting character. A Male Healer, Taim thought the idea had quite a bit of dark humour to it. What with all the destruction and chaos male channelers, including himself, had caused. And Taim liked dark things. Not to mention that Flinn was almost definitely one of those Light-blinded fools, and here the M'Hael was, with just shy of 13 myrddraal. Well, Taim did not think he was likely to gain any knowledge out of Flinn, he had no Talent for Healing, but destroying another enemy of the Great Lord would amuse him for a short time...

 

Taim issued a training session with Flinn. Officially, Flinn had been too long from the Black Tower and Taim needed to check that he had not lost his fighting abilities, but it was an obvious, but unavoidable ruse. Flinn limped slowly into the Arena and Taim smirked to himself. Beating a cripple into submission wouldn't be exactly fair of him, now would it? While Taim was fantasizing of how he might torture Flinn before his death, the crippled channeler attacked. Taim had enough time to throw a shield up that protected him from the worst of the lava coming his way, but he had still taken quite a hit, and his black coat was smouldering in some places.

 

tsking he patted down his clothes and then proceeded to weave Water to push this Lightie to the other side of the Arena. The weave formed and hit perfectly, anf Taim was smugly content, because it looked like he and his opponent were on level terms again

Round 2:

 

Was he playing with him? Filnn's brow creased in worry and concentration as he tried to stay afloat and fought against large tentacles of Water...

Once his vision cleared, Damer stood amidst his muddy end of the Arena and brushed the stuff off his cloak.

Once again he embraced Saidin and wove the Fire and Earth into a deadly ball of flame!

Once again Flinn attacked with EarthFire and Taim again failed to completely shield against the attack. Slightly annoyed he again weaved Water as his counter...

Round 3:

 

Being drenched wasn't so bad after all! Flinn spun around, wet cloak swishing and water dripping of his nose...

His stiff leg completely forgotten, he knotted together more bundles of flaming rocks and send them spinning at Taim at high speeds

This time Taim easily read Flinn's attack and deflected it before using Water as his counter. Flinn seemed to be holding up to his waterboarding pretty well though...

Round 4:

 

Damer was fighting with all his might, but against the power that has risen in the east came from the M'Hael, there was no victory!

 

His last chance was another flare of magma, and as it arched across the field, Damer Flinn screamed his defiance into the shadows face: FRRRREEEEEDDDOOOOMMMMMMMM! - Braveheart -

Taim laughed a little at Flinn's attempts to oppose him, his attack of EarthFire was terribly made and barely even reached Taim before he used a torrent of water to attack. Unfortunately Taim's aim seemed a little off and he didn't hit Matty square...

This could not be! The creator had blessed him! Light shone upon Damer as he wrung out his shirt and wrestled Saidin down, then he directed a mighty storm of lava at Taim so that it should burn him out!
