What the F!?!?!? Terry Goodkind has book called the Stone of Tears?!?!? I wonder where he got the "inspiration" for that title...? :?

Well ... unfortunately I read the Stone of Tears, and while the name is similar, thats where the similarity ends. So, I don't think it was plagiarism. :lol: ... it probably would have turned out better if he had plagiarized a bit.

hey, robertalexwillis. how are the later books in that series? i read the first 3 or so and they were good (not RJ good, of course) but never got a chance to read anymore. did they go downhill?

Yes. They go downhill. I enjoyed Wizard's First Rule. Stone of Tears was not as good, but ok. Blood of the Fold .... eh .... From Temple of the Winds onward, though, it was crap. Save yourself.

oh man, that's a bummer. like you said, the first one was good, so i had high hopes for goodkind. i'm always on the lookout for a good author but i guess i'll have to cross him off my list. too bad. at least there's melanie rawn and stephen r donaldson's next series... :)

Goodkind came up with a good story but in the later books there are a LOT of political, preachy rants. He's very set on his objectivist, capitalist, Ayn Randism. I could barely tolerate Faith of the Fallen (and could only do so by trying to completely ignore the preachy tone). The books after that just keep getting more preachy. Very annoying when you've read 6 books and only keep reading to see how it ends. I think he's made his darned point already!

As you can see poor TG gets a lot of hate on this site. Personally, I think he's quite entertianing, and all of his "preaching" is pretty interesting, though I will admit by about book 8 he's just repeating himself over and over again. The story drags from about book 4 through 8 (though I think 6 was quite good) but 9 and 10 pick up the story again since 9, 10, and 11 are a trilogy which even TG says can be read sepreate from the rest of the series.

 

They're no RJ, and they're not remotally in the same universe as GRRM, but if you can get past the preaching (or agree with some of it) then you'll find it rather entertaining. It's kinda like popcorn, with preachy butter on top.

I am so badly out of the loop when it comes to fantasy/fiction. I love Donaldson and will be looking for this book. Thanks for the heads up.

yeah, me too. and you're welcome. i was looking thru waldenbooks about a year or so ago and stumbled across a signed copy of his new series. so i bought it. i can't remember what it's called but i'll read it when all the books are out. :) donaldson is prolly my 2nd favorite author after RJ.
