This was always the direction they were going to go as soon as the system architecture could support it. It's only their insistence on keeping the core series on the handhelds that has stalled them - Stadium was evidence enough of that.

Still wish they were going the MMO route instead. Nice to see a grass starter that isn't reptilian, I suppose.

Think I prefer the fire-type; it looks like an expy of Vulpix, which is one of my favorites from way back. I generally find myself preferring the grass-type starters, though.

I'm getting kind of tired of some of the asinine names Nintendo of America comes up with for these things.

Five minutes with a search on DM would turn up a post I made back in 2007 about a three-headed dark/dragon Pokemon, about four years before B/W gave us Hydreigon. I think I should demand royalties.

Actually the post itself doesn't say anything about the three heads, now that I look at it, but the little sketch I had scribbled in pen at work around that time has what essentially amounts to a three-headed Gyarados with wings (it was supposed to be a third-stage evolution), crammed awkwardly onto a 2.5 x 4" message pad. This was when I was plotting a generation of Pokemon with a more or less prehistoric bent. I also had a fighting/flying type based off the Archaeopteryx, which B/W also gave us, and a bug/fire type which was not really comparable to Volcarona and likely to have happened eventually, but still annoying. Only a few of the Pokemon I had plotted actually got scanned and posted to my Photobucket, and none of them have notable official analogues.

In sum; wizarddom: possibiggle.

I prefer fire-type starters.  Went with a water-type once (Squirtle) but I prefer fire.  Which version will you try?  I'm leaning towards X rihgt now, simply because I like Xerneas's looks better.

I have no idea. May not even buy it since I don't have a 3DS.

Then again I did get a DS just to play Diamond all those years ago so who knows...

I'm going to end up buying a 3DS XL for this and a few other games

Fire Emblem Awakening

Animal Crossing

A few others.

Yeah. It has way better battery life and 4.88 inches compared to 3.53 inches on the regular.

Same resolution, so sometimes the image can seem a little stretched (Some complaints I've heard) but most people buy it for the battery life.

Gold and Silver forever *equips self with hipster shades*

In all seriousness, there's almost 1000 Pokemon. Ain't nobody got time fo' that.

Gold and Silver forever *equips self with hipster shades*

Straight trippin'. Not that I can offer a tangible explanation for why those and their DS remakes were the best versions.

Also, in the interests of out-hipstering you, I played them in the original Japanese before they were ever localized for the American market *waves her hipster scarf*

649 as of Gen V, not taking into account alternate forms. But since each generation adds at least 100 new Pokemon, X & Y are probably going to get us up to around 800.

Of the types that have not yet included an Eeveelution, I'd say Flying is most likely, considering its name. The only other things I'd suggest are Normal, and (in consideration of Mienshao's less-than-macho design) maybe Fighting. Apparently its method of evolution is something new.

Did we really need another Eeveelution?

Well considering all Eeveelutions thus far have been special type the only option left to continue the trend would be Dragon

It doesn't look like what I would imagine a Dragon type Eevee to look like

If we break from that then the likely options are: Flying, Bug, Ghost, Fighting, Poison, and Normal

It doesn't appear to have wings (Granted not all pokemon that can fly have wings) so I am personally ruling that out

It does have big eyes so bug is an option in my eyes

It doesn't look ghostly to me but maybe the big eyes are really dead/souless eyes so I wont rule that out

It looks too girly to be a fighting type

It looks too "clean" to be poison type

It looks like it could be a "normal" evolution of Eevee but that completely breaks the theme of Eevee which is to EVOLVE into something very different depending on what it's exposed to

There is also the theory that they're adding a Light type

I actually think it's probably going to be "Mew Three".

Whether that's what it will be called I dunno but I think it's the next step in the "Mew cycle" of pokemon.

That'd be interesting if it is.  As long as there aren't more than three (I personally prefer just Mew and Mewtwo).  Otherwise, I think it'd just get old, so to speak.

Definitely.

The thing about the pokemon world is...not much time has passed IIRC.

Red/Blue happened at the same time as Diamond/Pearl

Gold/Silver happened at the same time as Ruby/Sapphire which was shortly after R/B/D/P

I'm not sure where B/W and B2/W2 fits into the timeline but I'm pretty sure in the world of pokemon less than 5 years has passed whereas for us it's obviously been over 10.

Edit: What I was getting at is if a new "Mew" pokemon was going to happen it would make sense for it to happen now as I think the timeline has finally advanced enough whereas before it would have been barely a year or two after Mewtwo was even created.
