I'm trying to remember if there was another reason' date=' but... I think Avi was just being stand-offish. She wanted as little as possible to do with him, and did not appreciate him prying into her affairs. Later on, as her feelings developed, she might have gotten a kick out of his jealousy.[/color']

Plus Aiel are very, very reserved in public. Hugging with a couple of witnesses to them is probably more serious than a serious make-out-session in front of your graduating class would be to us.

 

Also, she may have been ashamed that she secretly liked his attention. That was still in the "you belong to Elayne" days.

I think she kept it secret becuse she found Rand's jelousy and curiosity over it amusing and cute.
