Because he's under police investigation for his drug use. He served a few months in prison for his bogus script writing. Good episode.

 

And he does get good stuff sometimes, the other docs were convinced he was using heroin. Turns out it was just methadone.

methadone is very silly. I saw that episode. I used to watch it but the medical terminology was jarring.

Oh, I disagree. I loved, loved ER, once douchebag Clooney left the show. In my old age, I'm really getting into dramas like I never did as a kid.
