True, an excellent pole vaulter will be good with a short or a long pole compared to an average pole vaulter. But that excellent pole vaulter will be better with a long pole over a short pole....

I can see that, but if the Pole vaulter is only an inch off the long pole, I'm sure he would still do a good job with it...of course if it is too long, that might affect his performance in a negative way...
