So, like every year, my family is pressuring me for Christmas gift ideas.  I was thinking about a board game for a gift suggestion.  Does anyone have any strategy/tactics board game that they have really enjoyed?  I could really use some ideas.  Thanks!

I haven't played Arimaa, but it sounds like a good game. I don't know where to buy boards and pieces, but then I haven't really gone looking for them. Otherwise there's the classics, like go, chess, and similar.

It isn't really a board game, but if it is family fun you are looking for, I recommend Apples to Apples.

 

For board games, nothing beats the classics.  Risk, chess, and monopoly are always big in my family.

I searched and found a homepage for Arimaa. Very interesting game, and they say one can use a chess board and pieces for playing if you don't have ones especially made for arimaa.

Axis and Allies is amazing. How do I put it...as Checkers is to Chess, Risk is to Axis and Allies.
