Back to the grind.  I had a good day at work.

Class resumed last week. Oof.

What classes are you taking?

Senior seminar (Films of Stanley Kubrick) and a writing seminar. I'm in the last stretch - 17 credits left, including this semester.

That sounds interesting! Though that's quite a semester. 

 

I think my favorite films course was Films of Akira Kurosawa.

Hiarth, what degree are you earning?

Bachelor's of English. It's only taken ten years. >_<;;

You want to teach?

Probably not. I worked for the school district before, both in house maintenance and as a contractor. Any desire I had to teach got burnt out right then and there.

So what's next after the degree?

Student loans.

 

I have a pretty well paying job that could become a long term career but I can't do it forever. We'll see.

Ok, loans. I'm determined my kids won't have any.

The rule of thumb is to never borrow more than you expect to earn your first year after graduation.

 

If I do teach, that isn't a problem. But with the unemployment rate for college grads, it's best to avoid them altogether. I took mine before the economy went bonkers in 2008 and made a gamble on a viable, healthy economy and I lost.

I have some married friends who will collectively owe $150,000 after grad school. I nearly choked on my lunch when he told me that.

I knew a woman who went to Harvard Law School and left before she finished. $90,000 in student loans.

Ugh. I didn't sleep well last night.

Me, either. I'm home sick today. Boo.
