Well, for one I found out it was possible that a story looked so dire I didn't want to continue reading when I already knew the ending. To be honest I didn't even think that could happen if I did not know the ending. For another, I found out it was possible to get emotional reading a story where I already knew the ending.

 

Also, the scourging (I think that's the word?) of the Shire was awesome.

In short: Without doubt the best story I've ever read, in writing, worldbuilding, storyline, anything.

I just want to give you a big thumbs up here. It's definitely a good read, and it has been way too long since I read it last!

I wanted to put it down... I believe with the tower of Cirith Ungol, maybe a bit after. It was a part with Frodo and Sam, somewhat after Sam mentioning it.

 

And I got a bit emotional when the Rohirrim charged in shouting "Death!" and more with the battle at the Black Gate when the Ring gets destroyed and with the celebrations afterwards.
