Oh yeah! I just read this on a reread, and I couldn't remember for the life of me what it was meant for.

I think it mighta been the shaido who killed them. For what to tell him i don't have a clue. Well actually i have a far fetched idea... They could have found the song then be murdered before they could sing it maybe? im not too srure :(

Pretty sure that Fain did it (from one of his POV's) and that he did it simply out of spite of Rand, or something along those lines.

If I was to have witnessed the event and the writing I would have thought "Oh, well, I guess I'd better go tell Rand about this big group of Tinkers that was murdered"

 

I wouldn't go pondering as to what to tell them. It seemed to me to just be a message to someone to inform Rand about the event.
