White Ajah Winter Carnival - Animal Discussion

Welcome to the White Ajah's Winter Carnival!

Have you ever thought about how animals are adapted to live in cold environments?
How about animals that have the ability to change according to the season?

To start off with this discussion, which animals do you associate with winter, and why?

I like that there are animals that change according to season. Like hares and foxes.

A common example is the husky. It's real fun to pull out all the winter coat hair in summer

LoL Sooh ... try cats! :P

I'm with Rhea and Zander, though - since down here in the Cape we don't really have such big differences in temperature (it's either hot, or ....g hot), I also associate anything white or from Canadialand or the Poles with winter.

I know. It depends on the type of cat though. My cat doesn't really shed annoying amounts of hair, and she is a brown tabby so her hairs aren't glaring.

Canadialand!

We say...Cananananada!

I always wanted a white cat. I've always had black ones!

To South Africa, I associate swallows with the season though. They migrate every when it's cold so it's kinda sad to see them go...

Anything special where you all are, in terms of animals and their seasonal behaviour?

My animals stay in the house as much as possible!!! LOL It's too cold!

The deer here will bed in our yard out of the wind in the winter. Rabbits and squirrels keep warm in our flower beds and trees. Otherwise I don't see many other animals when it gets cold. .

I associate birds with Winter.

Two birds actually:

and great tit

They appear here in Winter and disappear in Spring. As I know they don't migrate but Summer they usually spend in forests and it's difficult to spot them and in winter they come closer to people, to the gardens and parks to look for food and it's easy to notice them on leaveless trees.

Thank you all for participating in this discussion and in the White Ajah's Winter Carnival!
