I see your point that nobody would claim anything but town.  However, I like to put that out there for the cop/ld.  Did you ever think of that.  

 

Cops get results about people's alignments usually, and sometimes they get full roles. They are not dependent like a lie detector on posts saying "I am town" to scan for truth or not.

Look at this as a phase where you can lay out clues about your role, or fake clues about another role. Sometimes it can be good to point back at.

If I were the cop I'd ignore such statements at this point in the game. I mean, a town might be joking around, or a mafia might be acting like a town joking around, and either way it's not gonna make it more or less likely to find a mafia behind it, I'd say.

 

Of course, the cop should decide for him/herself.
